You can't do it alone! Here are some of my favorite running websites, people, and organizations.
Running Stuff
Runners World I look forward to their new issue in my mailbox every month, but their website is pretty nice and has a lot of information to boot.
MarathonGuide.com This is a fantastic guide to marathons, with news, articles, and discussion areas. Best of all, it has a huge directory of races all over the world, with places for people to rate the marathons they've done!
Metro Run & Walk If you live in the Washington DC area, this is a good place to get running shoes. You're helped one-on-one with staff who know what they're talking about; when you're going to do this much running, you can't just get a random pair off the rack!
People
Julie Babyak Julie is my co-worker and co-conspirator for the AIDS Marathon Training Program for five years in a row now!
Chad Jones He's the one who got me started down this crazy road. I heard what he was doing through his partner Shaun and thought, "Wow, this is a great idea." So I donated some money and started reading his updates. Before too long, I found myself thinking, "Hmmm, maybe I could try this." So I am. It's all his fault. Chad participated in AIDS Marathon for both 2000 (Chicago Marathon) and 2001 (Honolulu Marathon) and has run, like, nine zillion additional races since then.
Tod Companion Tod's an amazing marathoner who not only trains himself for really long races every year, but is also a coach for the DC area branch of AIDS Marathon. Some day I hope to be as cool as Tod!
Terry Higgins I first heard from Terry through one of his fraternity brothers, John, whom I trained with in 2001 and 2003. Terry's one of those super-runners that makes me say "wow" a lot when I hear about his latest accomplishments.
Pam Fine Pam was in my pace group in 2001; within seconds everyone was charmed by her infectious personality. She's since run marathons with me in 2003 and 2004, and is also training with us this year. Pam's website is really, really, really out of date.
Steve Conley and Britt Conley Steve and Britt are two close friends that I helped talk into participating in 2002. Steve's journals are drawn as comic stripsyou have to see them to truly appreciate them!
More About Me If you're really bored, I do have an entire personal website as well. I do not hold myself responsible for you falling asleep after visiting, though.
Organizations
AIDS Marathon
This is the nationwide organization that put my training programs together for six years. They're wonderful, and have offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago.
Outer Banks Marathon
I ran the Outer Banks Marathon in 2007—a slightly more rugged, off-the-beaten path marathon that was really enjoyable.
Firenze Marathon
I ran the Firenze Marathon (aka Florence Marathon) in 2006. Let me tell you, it's hard to beat beautiful Italian scenery for a marathon eyefull!
Marine Corps Marathon
This is the marathon I ran in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 as the culmination to six months worth of training and funraising!
Baltimore Marathon
This was my first marathon, in 2001. Much, much harder than anyone suspected, I finished it and for some bizarre reason decided to keep running. (But not Baltimore again. Oh no.)
