The Marine Corps Marathon 2003, page 1 of 8
Upon arriving to the marathon in 2003, I discovered that my camera battery was dead. I eventually got a replacement (my mother brought one to me and handed it off around mile 9) but my picture-taking-spirit was broken. As a result, most of the pictures this year are from the good graces of family and friends. They get most of the credit this year, not me!

Pace group assemble! John! Lindsay! Dave! Madelyn! Scott! Mary! Lisa! Greg! Julie! (Alas, Beth was running late but you can imagine her there too!) |
The start of the race! Can you see me? |
There I am! Apparently with my eyes shut. Note that Dave (in the maroon sweatshirt) is behind me. This is the only time in the entire race where this is true. (John, meanwhile, is chopped off by the cameraman.) |
I'm still pretty excited as we come up on the Key Bridge. Still with most of my group, too. |
This is where the ramp we're running up literally turns right and spits you onto the Key Bridge (and Georgetown). Julie and I had things for crowds to shout written on the back of our shirts but unlike previous years, the crowd never seemd to catch on. Why aren't you shouting "Wahoo!" for us? |
Oh, we give up on you crowds. Into Georgetown we shall go!
(left-to-right: Me, Julie, Lisa, Lindsay, Scott) |
As we ran across the Key Bridge, Mary suddenly caught up with us! I normally hate walking across the tiny pedestrian walkway on Key Bridge, but I absolutely love running across it in the marathon. Go figure. |
