I can't see Madelyn's face, but I'm sure she's thinking something like, "Oh look, the base of another hill up ahead, stretching into infinity." (The back of Madelyn's shirt says "MOM". When you have nine thousand children, you get used to answering to it!) |

Julie finally finds her mother around mile 6.5 and runs over for a quick (sweaty) hug. |

We finally catch up with Giovanna! If you didn't know better, you'd think this was a picture of sight-seers, not people in a marathon. |

The balloon arch at the mile 7 marker was a nice touch. (So were the Voortman sugar wafer cookies they were handing out. Yum.) |

For a brief shining moment, we really believe that we've run all the way to Beverly Hills, California. |

These two women from Team in Training (which raises money for leukemia patients) were right in front of us for the first nine miles or so, easily. It was really disappointing when they finally put some distance between us. |
