Morning Run, Afternoon Spinning

Beautiful Morning

Took a week off, and everything seems to be better now. Took no chances and just did 4 miles at a gentle pace. So far, so good. More importantly, it was a gorgeous morning; heading towards Lincoln we got a huge full moon slowly setting into the Rosslyn skyline, then on the way back the sun rising over the Capitol. Love it.

The Bad

The run itself wasn’t too bad. But as soon as it was over, my left hamstring started killing me. *sigh* (And just in time for a 5-hour flight home.) Have been icing it today and taking some ibuprofen. We shall see.

Was going to run along the Strand in Venice Beach & Santa Monica on this trip… and then I forgot to bring the charger for the Garmin. *sigh* With an 11-miler scheduled, I sucked it up and ran it on the treadmill at the hotel gym. Since it shuts off every 60 minutes, I broke it up into two segments and used the gap in-between to refill the water bottle. I hate treadmill running with a white hot passion but this was ok.

Raining this morning plus meetings at work all day meant a run at the gym (UGH), and unfortunately one mile less than I wanted. Oh, how I hate treadmills. Still, you do what you can.

Blustery Day

Saturday’s run was originally scheduled for 12 miles, but I ended up going with just 8 since it’s been a while. John and Stephanie ran 4 on their own, and then John scooped me up for an 8-miler down the Mall and up Rock Creek. (Stephanie had to bail on the rest of the run due to lack of sleep, alas.) The run itself went fine (yay!) although the wind was killer. On the way back we ended up taking a slight detour to avoid running near the water. If we were kites we’d have been airborne in the blink of an eye…

Back!

Back in the saddle! Took two weeks off, then a couple extra days due to a stomach bug. But the hamstring appears to be completely healed (phew); no pain or problems on a treadmill 4-miler. (I figured just in case, it would be better to not be two miles away from home and suddenly have issues.) So far, so good. Now just to try and get back on track for the Rock ‘N Roll USA Half Marathon in mid-March…
