Last of October

Start time: 10/30/2013, 5:51am

Distance: 6.3 miles
Average pace: 10:22min/mile
Total Miles For October: 62 miles
Total Miles For 2013: 642 miles
Current Shoes: 236 miles

Last run for October. Rained for a bit, then thankfully let up. More importantly, since it was 52 or so degrees, it wasn’t quite the disaster that rain would’ve been if it was 15 degrees cooler…

Cool morning

I managed to forget to lay out about half of my running clothes and gear the night before, so it was an… interesting morning getting ready.

Saturday in the Zoo

Average pace: 10:05min/mile

Brisk, beautiful morning, hovering around 40 degrees. Ben, Stephanie, and Stephanie’s-sister’s-boyfriend Arman joined me for a good paced run up and through the Zoo. Even with a 12-min mile due to an extended “I can’t eat these Sports Beans very fast because they have frozen” food break, a good pace. Pretty perfect experience. (Save for having no Steve or Ben!)

Clarendon Reverse-Brick

Location: Clarendon

Average pace: 8:56min/mile
Total Miles For October: 40 miles
Total Miles For 2013: 620 miles
Current Shoes: 214 miles

Ran one of my old routes in Clarendon after work, and right before spin class. Nice to be back in the old ‘hood, even if once again every time I turn around there’s something new being built…

Cooler

Average pace: 10:22min/mile
Total Miles For October: 35 miles

Cool temps with just me and Ben. Loved the weather, but I fear shorts are about to get (partially) packed up for the season.

Cool 10-miler

Start time: 10/19/2013, 7:00am
Location: National Mall, Capitol Hill, Navy Yard, Mt. Vernon Trail
Distance: 10 miles
Average pace: 10:30min/mile
Total Miles For October: 29 miles
Total Miles For 2013: 609 miles
Current Shoes: 203 miles

John and Stephanie were tackling a 13-miler today, so Ben and I joined them for the back 10. Great, cool weather. With hindsight I could’ve probably run all 13, it was so nice out. No complaints!

Afternoon delight

Start time: 10/14/2013, 3:45pm

Distance: 7 miles
Average pace: 9:46min/mile
Total Miles For October: 19 miles
Total Miles For 2013: 599 miles
Current Shoes: 193 miles

Ran a rare 7-miler with Charlie (his choice of distance, although I wish I’d insisted on 8 miles now that I look at my 2013 total!); lots of gnats and a little warm/sunny, but otherwise no complaints!

Wet and dreary

Start time: 10/12/2013, 8:00am
Location: SW Waterfront, Hains Point, National Mall
Distance: 8.45 miles
Average pace: 10:42min/mile
Total Miles For October: 12 miles
Total Miles For 2013: 592 miles
Current Shoes: 186 miles

Wet and dreary run this morning; Stephanie was tackling an 18-miler so Ben and I joined her for the last portion. Rained on us periodically. We also ignored all the barracades (due to the shutdown) and ran in East Potomac Park and along the National Mall. Rebels!

Somewhat back in the saddle

Start time: 10/7/2013, 2:30pm
Location: WSC Silver Spring
Distance: 4 miles
Average pace: 9:40min/mile
Total Miles For October: 4 miles
Total Miles For 2013: 584 miles
Current Shoes: 178 miles

Since my last run, I went up to Maine, biked around Acadia National Park, came home, got an awful case of food poisoning, and slowly recovered. Attempted to run 6 miles, but only managed 4 before my insides said, “That’s enough for today.” Did about 20 minutes on the stationary bike (less jostling) to try and at least have some more activity. It’s a start.
