Backwards brick for Wednesday; I had so much stuff to get done after spinning class that I ended up running my 2 miles right before class started. Not really a brick, but the switch-up was good and it put me a little more tired for spinning, which is a I figure a somewhat good simulation of post-swim. Also thinking that I might start shifting the post-spin run up to 3 miles. (Also might start doing it outdoors, if I can clean and break down the bike quickly.)

Ten days after the half marathon, it’s back to running! I have been exercising since then, mind you; last week ended up being ultra-busy but I did get some swimming in, and this week has already had cycling, swimming, and now a spinning/running brick. I need to try and figure out if the better move might be to break down the bike quickly and run outside next time; there’s something nice about just going 15 steps to be on the track and dash out two miles with no interruptions, but it was also a pretty gorgeous night outside. Hmmmm. Will think this one through. Anyway, it was a short run, but after coming off a tough-but-good spinning class (and ten days off of running) I’m really quite pleased.

Wednesday was a bit of an experiment; I’d missed Tuesday’s run due to jet lag, so I decided that I’d try and get some running in either before or after spinning class. By the time I got there, I was too early for the 6:30 start, but too late to get 4 miles in. So instead, I ran two miles, then did my 45 minute spin class, then skipped the cool down and dismantling of the bike (don’t worry, I cleared it with the instructor in advance) and immediately ran 2 more miles. Considering I felt a tiny bit wobbly at first from the transition, I’d say only picking up 18 seconds per mile was a nice accomplishment. (Then I went back and wiped down and took apart the bike as well as did some cool-down stretches.)

Indoor Track Fun

In a non-shock of the century, still no significant melting going on outside. Right now my regular running routes are completely impassable; when they completely cleared 10th Street in Arlington, they did so by shoveling all the snow off of the road and onto the shoulders… which includes the sidewalks. It’s fairly insane as a result, and other streets are in just as bad a condition. So unless I want to run down main roads and risk my life… guess it’s time for more indoor track fun. (At least that option is available.) I also noticed that the parking lot was more full than normal despite there not being more people at the rec center; I think people in the local neighborhood are parking there rather than on the street. What this probably means is that going to spinning class tonight might be problematic. We shall see.

Anyway! The run went ok. Sure it was boring (thank you “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” for this morning’s entertainment) and I was huffing and puffing from a general lack of running as of late, but I got it done and that’s all that really mattered to me.

What’s that about best laid plans and all that? I was supposed to run on Saturday with my group, but a towed car put an end to that. And while I should have run afterwards, it derailed me enough that it just didn’t happen. Monday likewise ended up being a no-go. With the race this weekend, though, I needed to do something. Finally, I picked up a 3-miler at the gym this morning. It’s just wretchedly cold out still, and I am supremely unmotivated right now. I just need a break. Except, of course, I also picked up some heavy duty holiday poundage that needs to go away. Argh. I’ve definitely been feeling it on these last few runs. Time to eat a little more frugally post-Disney.

Hopefully I’ll get a swim in tomorrow; it’s now been a month since I’ve made it over there. Yeesh!

Oops, I’m a week behind now. My data for the other two workouts isn’t handy, but I do have Tuesday’s laps on my watch. I was still feeling a little stiff on Tuesday, but I forced myself to knock out four miles on the (bleah) indoor track. I really should have gotten up before work and run, but it just didn’t happen. I really need to get better about going to bed at a decent hour so I can actually wake up and do exercise. I used to be better about this. Anyway, the run started out in a “just go slow and do something” but once everything loosened up I felt a bit better.
