New Shoes Are Required

Start time: 7/12/2014, 7:05am
Location: National Mall, Capital Crescent Trail
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 10:31 min/mile
Total Miles For July: 36 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 421 miles
Current Shoes: 219 miles

Sweaty and humid 8-miler with Jerry and Ben. Was definitely feeling the weather by the end! Also, the new shoe experiment is coming to a close. I’ve been having some issues that didn’t exist with the old Brooks Addictions, so I’ve ordered a new pair and they’ll be arriving soon. Ah well!

Fourth of July Pennyfarthing

Start time: 7/4/2014, 10:30am
Location: Sligo Creek Park, Silver Spring
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 9:50 min/mile
Total Miles For July: 14 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 399 miles
Current Shoes: 197 miles

Decided to go for a run today since I’m pretty sure it’s not happening tomorrow. Despite a late start, the weather outside was so mild (for this time of year in DC, it seems to normally be in the high 90s) that it worked out well. Ran through Sligo Creek Park and back, then up to Silver Spring to meet Charlie at the WSC (where he was working out) to take a shower and run some errands from there.

But most importantly, while in Sligo Creek, I came across the most awesome cyclist I’ve seen in quite a while.

Small Group

Start time: 6/28/2014, 7:15am
Location: National Mall, Capital Crescent Trail
Distance: 8.05 miles
Average pace: 10:15 min/mile
Total Miles For June: 74 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 378 miles
Current Shoes: 176 miles

Ran with John and Stephanie this morning, although for the first half it was just me and John. There were some accidents that snarled up traffic and Stephanie was trapped on the far side of the slow down, so she ended up letting us know to start without her, and then she headed out after us and caught us as we were coming on our way back. She ended up with 6.5 miles under her belt so it wasn’t too much of a loss, and it was nice to have her with us for the second portion.

Metropolitan Branch Trail: The Return

Start time: 6/21/2014, 7:15am
Location: Metropolitan Branch Trail
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 10:33min/mile
Total Miles For June: 53 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 357 miles
Current Shoes: 155 miles

It’s been ages since I ran on the Metropolitan Branch Trail — I think about a year or so — but I tackled it today with the help of my neighbor Justin. It was a nice run and good company, and hopefully next week he’ll meet the rest of the group (everyone of whom was unavailable for various reasons today). As an added bonus, we beat the rain this morning by about 10 minutes. Woohoo!

Obstacle Course

Start time: 6/14/2014, 7:00am
Location: National Mall, Mt. Vernon Trail, Georgetown
Distance: 8.39 miles
Average pace: 10:43min/mile
Total Miles For June: 39 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 343 miles
Current Shoes: 141 miles

Between multiple road closures in getting to the Mall, followed by encountering three different races (Lawyers Have Heart, a Dragonboat race, and a race to raise money to fight pancreatic cancer) it really kept Ben, Stephanie, and me on our toes as we had to repeatedly start, stop, and double-back in today’s run.

Lost in Southeast DC

Start time: 6/7/2014, 7:00am
Location: Capitol Hill, East Capitol Street, Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, Navy Yard, Waterfront
Distance: 8 miles
Average pace: 10:22min/mile
Total Miles For June: 20 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 324 miles
Current Shoes: 122 miles

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time: try out a new 8-mile loop where we ran down East Capitol Street all the way to RFK Stadium, then run back up the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail to Navy Yard and the Waterfront. Except we took a wrong turn on the Riverwalk Trail and were suddenly ejected out into Barney Circle. Oops. We found our way (eventually) back to the trail and it all worked out in the end. Next time I’ll try and memorize the route a bit better, though!

Getting Back Out There

Start time: 5/31/2014, 7:00am
Location: National Mall, Mt. Vernon Trail
Distance: 8.16 miles
Average pace: 10:15min/mile
Total Miles For May: 66 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 304 miles
Current Shoes: 102 miles

Still getting over the cold/crud, unfortunately. I’m probably 90-95% better, but there’s still just that laaaaaast little bit that I can’t quite shake. So today’s run went well overall, but there was one point where I did have to step off the path, cough/hack for a few seconds, and then catch up with the group. Classy!

Reunited

Start time: 5/3/2014, 7:00am
Location: National Mall, Mt. Vernon Trail
Distance: 8.07 miles
Average pace: 10:13min/mile
Total Miles For May: 8 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 246 miles
Current Shoes: 44 miles

For the first time in ages, the entire group (me, Armand, Ben, Jerry, John, Stephanie, Steve) were all present for a run. Crazy talk! Our original 14th St Bridge/Mt. Vernon Trail/Memorial Bridge route got detoured thanks to the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, but it all worked out in the end.

8 is Great

Start time: 4/26/2014, 7:00am

Distance: 8.13 miles
Average pace: 9:39min/mile
Total Miles For April: 68 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 236 miles
Current Shoes: 34 miles

Had a fantastic run with Armand and Jerry on Saturday. It started a little windy but by the turnaround point on the Cap Crescent, I was pulling off the jacket and tying it around my waist. No complaints whatsoever.

Quiet Saturday + Monday

Start time: 4/19/2014, 7:00am
Location: National Mall, Howard University, Navy Yard
Distance: 8.22 miles
Average pace: 10:18min/mile
Total Miles For April: 54 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 222 miles
Current Shoes: 20 miles

Start time: 4/21/2014, 5:40am
Location: National Mall
Distance: 6.11 miles
Average pace: 10:01min/mile
Total Miles For April: 60 miles
Total Miles For 2014: 228 miles
Current Shoes: 26 miles

Two nice, relatively uneventful runs. Looking forward to a touch warmer weather (but not too much), which should hopefully be soon. On the plus side, I think in another week or so the need for bright/white shirts on Mon/Wed mornings will be retired since it’ll be light enough out.
