I think it's eating my brain! So, in the second episode of Farscape (“I, E.T.”) the episode opens with an alarm going off on Moya that broadcast so loudly it kept making Crichton’s face twitch, and one of his eyes kept squinting shut over and over again as part of the side-effect?

Yeah, that was me this afternoon while we were out running. It wasn’t because of sun in my eyes—I’ve been pretty good lately and have been wearing my prescription sunglasses on the maintenance runs because of the position of the sun this time of day—but because I was sweating like a crazy man, and all that salty gunk kept running into my eyes. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. It was really gross, and there was me without my “long run wash cloth” that I sometimes have with me in July and August. I’d say I must have looked like a big ol’ freak, but that’s nothing new, and wearing the same Cherry Blossom 10-miler shirt as Mark just really compounded it all. (At least Julie wasn’t wearing hers, too!)

But on a happier note, it was otherwise a very good run. First and last miles were both at 10:30, the middle three were all 11:00-on-the-dot or slightly under. This ratio is slowly starting to feel like home, yay! (Although for the 10K this Sunday I will no doubt use my tried-and-true 4:1 ratio that served me well for the Sallie Mae 10K. If I tackle the Capitol Hill classic smartly—start off at a 10:30 pace for the first mile, then be up to a 9:30 by mile three, and knock another full minute off by mile five, I’ll get that elusive under-59:59 that has my name on it.)

  1. I was told one that sweat that burns your eyes means that you are not in shape. I am not sure if that holds any water or not, probably none.

I similar near blinding experience on my run on Tuesday… sweat pouring from a brisk pace… sun in my eyes… the the salt. It reminds me of Bill Cosby’s routine “[soap got into her eyes]and now she’s blinded FOR LIFFFEEEEE”

good luck this weekend on the sub-60!!

  2. I *need* seasons one and two. I hvae three and four and the mini but I don’t have the first two and I haven’t seen those eps in *ages*. Because John Crichton is one of my tv boyfriends and OMG angst love.

I tried to do a maintance run on monday and had fire up and down my left leg. Like limping home in tears fire. BUt then I sat for 20 minutes and was fine. It’s driving me nuts. I’ll be fine for Saturday runs but anything during the week in the evening just hurts. Got some stretches from the coaches last weekend but they don’t really seem to be helping. Meh. I’m glad you’re doing much better. 🙂

    1. My first year I had some major problems with my maintenance runs versus my Saturday morning runs–I finally had to sit down and figure out everything I was doing differently that made one hurt and the other easy. In the end, for me, it was that during the week I’d get up, stretch, and then go running; on Saturdays I’d be up and about for an hour or two and everything would loosen up a lot more. Once I gave myself more time… bingo.

Maybe the weekday runs need to be early in the morning because throughout the day things are tightening up? *scratches head* Everyone’s a little different, alas, so there’s no simple “this works for everyone” solution I can offer up. Hopefully it’ll all fall into place though.
