12/13: A mid-week 6-miler, using the gym’s indoor track. Round and round and round… oogh. This supposed 1/8th mile track kills me, especially when people you know are there using other equipment and you have to run by them 48 times… (9:17, 8:48, 8:44, 8:40, 8:45, 8:41)

12/15: Group run! After our warm-ups, Fred had us run a 400m, before embarking on four slowly increasing 200m runs. Then we had to keep that pace for a 400m, then (supposedly) an 800m. If we weren’t able to maintain at the 400m point of the 800m, though, we were to stop and do another 400m. Which almost all of us did. Oof! Harder than it sounded.

12/17: Back to the indoor track, yay. Mostly without incident, aside from almost getting clocked in the head with a basketball. Whoops. At least I saw it coming and caught it, right? (48.79, 49.00, 46.35, 45.18, 45.37, 44.10, 41.11, 41.39)

12/22: I had been feeling slack since my Monday workout, so it took a lot of “come on, get up and get moving” muttering at my end to finally do, well, just that. Since I had a big dinner scheduled for the evening, it’s what finally got me out there. I was moving kind of slow and feeling a little creaky, but I was glad to just go and move. And as it turned out, I ended up running into 2001-2003 pace group buddy Madelyn and her daughter Cecelia, training for the Disney World Half Marathon, so clearly it was the right call! It was great to see them. (9:20, 9:08, 8:44, 9:08, 9:30, 9:27, 9:42, 9:11)

12/24: School was out, so I took advantage of the empty high school track and ran my splits there. I’m fairly convinced that my indoor track is a little shy whenever I run here instead. Oh well. I won’t deny it, with the colder weather I was huffing and puffing and feeling super-slow here. But I was glad I got out and did it! (47.96, 47.13, 43.62, 44.48, 44.25, 43.16, 43.66, 41.73)

12/25: I needed to clear my head during Christmas day, so I laced up the shoes and went for a run in the hill-tastic area of Vienna, VA. (Seriously, hills galore in my parents’s neighborhood.) I’d forgotten to bring my GPS so I ran based on time and unfortunately ran a tiny bit short of my intended 6 miles. Still, within .2 is pretty good, right? And episodes 3-4 of the missing Doctor Who story “The Abominable Snowmen” was a nice accompaniment for the run.
